Located on the banks of the lower Rio Negro, the Indigenous community of Terra Preta is home to 46 Baré families and faces severe challenges in accessing reliable energy. Although the community was included in the Luz Para Todos program in 2017, electricity supply remains unstable and insufficient, forcing residents to rely daily on diesel generators. In 2022, through the coordination of COPIME (Coordenação dos Povos Indígenas de Manaus e Entorno) and ACINCTP (Associação Comunitária Indígena de Terra Preta), Revolusolar began working in the territory to support a just energy transition adapted to the Amazonian context.
The first solar installation took place in 2023 at Escola Municipal Arú Waimi. In 2024, a second system was implemented to supply the local health post, water pump, and community center. Altogether, 20.85 kWp of clean energy — stored in batteries — now ensure energy autonomy and continuity, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels. More than infrastructure, the project prioritizes education and training: 20 residents were trained as solar electricians in partnership with IFAM, and Indigenous teachers and communicators shared knowledge on renewable energy across the community. The project’s name, Kurasí Tury, which means Energy of the Sun in Nheengatu, was chosen collectively, reflecting the community’s leadership and identity in building its path toward energy autonomy.
