With over four decades of work in the communities of Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo, Solar Meninos de Luz is a well-established reference in education, culture, and social support in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone. The institution operates a 4,500 m² educational complex where daily activities range from daycare to high school, as well as artistic, sports, and cultural workshops, along with programs that support families and strengthen the broader community. More than 4,500 people directly benefit from solar’s actions, which promote holistic, human-centered education — including three daily meals, psychosocial support, and an active social protection network.
The project Revolução da Energia Solar na Escola Solar Meninos de Luz expands the reach and impact of this mission by integrating a just energy transition into the life of the institution and its surrounding territory. The initiative strengthens energy efficiency and solar energy use, aligning sustainability with the school’s social mission. At the same time, it engages residents, students, and families in practices that promote community autonomy and environmental care, positioning the school as a radiating hub of transformation for the entire community.
