In 2023, Revolusolar expanded its work to the east side of São Paulo through a project developed in partnership with Instituto Pólis, at the Conjunto Habitacional Paulo Freire in Guaianases. The installation of the photovoltaic system now supplies electricity to the common areas of the housing complex, generating significant savings that can be reinvested in improvements for the entire community. The project is rooted in a collective model built on the principles of participation, solidarity, popular knowledge, and social justice — values that reflect the residents’ own history of organization and resistance.
The initiative seeks to democratize access to affordable, sustainable, and high-quality energy in a territory often overlooked by public policies. The second phase of the project, currently under development, foresees the installation of an additional 40 kW to directly serve the households of the 100 families living in the complex. The expectation is to significantly reduce electricity bills for each apartment, strengthen the community’s energy autonomy, and establish Guaianases as a reference for popular energy transition in Brazil’s largest metropolis.
Technical assistance training for social movements and members of the housing movement focused on the installation and maintenance of the photovoltaic system.
Around 300 people participated in this free online course on how civil society organizations, Technical Assistance in Social Housing (ATHIS), and public, private, and other strategic actors can contribute to fighting energy poverty, promoting just energy transition projects, and advancing the Right to Housing and the City.
